life and times of...
I received my B.F.A. in Graphic & Industrial Design from the University of Michigan in 2007.
I have worked within the University of Michigan for almost 5 years. As an undergraduate in the school of Art and Design, through a work-study position with the A. Alfred Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning, I started work as a graphic designer/photographer and slowly found my way to web design and programming. Since then I have worked with several other departments of the University, such as the Department of Family Medicine, Department of Classical Studies, School of Art and Design, and University Health Services creating/updating websites, instructional modules, designing print media and general trouble shooting. There have been instances where I have worked at up to three departments at a single time. I have an extensive knowledge of University systems such as CTools, Site Maker, and lessons. I also work with Vignette, Drupal, WordPress and MoveableType.
In my free time I voluntarily teach design classes at the Neutral Zone. We have a new program that teaches the basics of screen-printing. I educate my students about the nuances of Photoshop and Illustrator. They start by designing the artwork using those programs and work their way to preparing and printing the silkscreen. I am also currently working on another program that teaches the fundamentals of fashion design, starting from pattern making to actual construction.
With a Bachelors degree of Fine Arts and a concentration in Graphic Design I have made it a personal goal to work with educational, non-profits and other creatives. I believe designers have a moral obligation of how their work affects society. I also believe that these types of institutions play a very important role in the growth of conscious within our consumer culture/society.
As a self taught musician I am currently writing and recording music. Soon, I hope to get an act together. In the meantime I am working with some local artists in and near Ann Arbor, both as a designer and a screen printer. This passion has drawn me close to some local artists and together we are getting a small, independent silk screening business together, Modati. Please pardon the current web site; I am in the process of designing a new one.
I am a very curious individual; interested in many aspects of design, because of this trait I am constantly creating new projects. Currently I am working on 4 projects as well as a handful of other freelance jobs (I have to pay the bills somehow ; ) They are titled respectively "THE COLLECTIVE", "PRESS", "REFORM", "MODATI". Stay tuned for more details and links.
When I am not designing, I am helping out at our family restaurant in Dearborn Heights. When I am neither at the restaurant, nor designing, hopefully I am sleeping.
Below is an article from when I was working on my senior thesis, which involved the Fashion Industry and the Environment.
